I still don't understand this DNS stuff. Would you point me at some references?
| There are lots of DNS resources. Try: - The book DNS and Bind by Albitz and Liu, published by O'Reilly Order it online from Amazon.COM or Reiters Scientific and Professional Books. It's worth the money.
- newsgroup: soa.help (to give or get help regarding the Public DNS)
- newsgroup: comp.protocols.dns.bind (for generic BIND information, only)
- newsgroup: comp.protocols.tcp-ip.domains (for generic DNS information, only) and its FAQ (html or (ftp)
- András Salamon's comprehensive DNS Resources Directory
- Ask Mr. DNS from Acme Byte and Wire
- RFC 1183, by Everhart, Mamakos, Ullmann, Mockapetris, October 1990, Section 2, pp. 3-6. This describes additional resource record types, like the Responsible Person or RP record, including examples of their use. (alternate source for RFC 1183)
- RFC 1912 for general guidelines about writing DNS zone specifications
- Name Server Operations Guide for BIND release 4.9.4, from the Internet Software Consortium
You will not find explanations for 'SOB' and 'DOA' records. They are pseudo RR types meaning 'Start of Secondary DNS service' and 'Delete Zone data', respectively. They are used only by the tools of the Public DNS. You may find the primary DNS example zone specification or the secondary DNS example zone specification to be a useful reference, too.
